Safe Environment
One of our many goals at St. Agatha Catholic School is to provide our students with the safest environment possible. In 2008 the Archdiocese of Portland implemented their Called to Protect Program. The program was created in partnership with Praesidium, and is used in many Archdioceses across the nation, as well as many private organizations. All staff, clergy, and volunteers working with children must complete this training. This program is also implemented in our health curriculum for kindergarten to eighth grade.
There are just a few steps required for someone to volunteer. First, you must fill out a background check form ($13.00 fee), and turn it in to the front desk. You will be notified if there is a problem. Then you will need to complete the initial training titled “Called to Protect”. This is a 2 part video training, and may be completed at the school, parish, or a local parish/school in the area. All volunteers must also complete the Archdiocesan Code of Conduct, which is a one time only online training. Every subsequent year, the Archdiocese requires all volunteers to do an update training online. The updates were created to go more in depth on the information that is in the initial “Called to Protect” training, as well as to be a refresher course. If you have any questions about the trainings, please contact Sarah Lutz (program administrator) at the school office.
